New iPhone App launches - already 300+ downloads

klickdigital's first iPhone app was launched yesterday and within the first day it has already been downloaded 300 times. The aim of the game is to carry water from the pump to the well along a treacherous track in the shortest time possible, while losing as little water as possible. Watch out for lions, rock falls, snakes, goats and also the rickety bridge. Highest monthly score wins a free Triton shower.

The app uses the iPhone's tilt mechanism and also links into the score sharing service from OpenFeint. Check the app out (its free) and let us know your thoughts

We have also added a video of the game on YouTube for those of you unlucky enough not to have an iPhone.

Barefoot Wine website launches

Earlier this month we launched the new Barefoot UK Wine website with Chapter Agency with whom we work on a number of projects. A highly visual site that gives the Barefoot Wine brand its first UK online presence as it rolls out across the UK. The prize draw for free tickets to summer music festivals across the UK has generated a lot of interest and the site traffic continues to build through organic search and also competition postings on sites such as Loquax.

Triton Showers eBay Shop Re-Design

Having trialled an eBay Shop for the past year to clear obsolete stock, Triton asked klickdigital to apply a branded skin to their shop to give them ‘stand-out’ from the other bath and shower shops on eBay and improve views and sales. The result is a bespoke designed eBay shop that supports the Triton brand and is fresh and exciting.

Not only is the Triton eBay Shop visually different and striking compared to other shops, the management of the eBay shop content and listing is so simple compared to the Turbo Lister solution they were using before. More advanced functionality that is simpler for the user to use – a perfect solution in our eyes.

The proof in the pudding will be an increase in eBay sales – so we are watching the weekly sales figures closely. Watch this space for our next eBay Shop launch which is currently going through client review.

Google Reveals Google TV - But The Big News Is The Growth Opportunity For Android

Yesterday Google revealed Google TV which brings Google search to the television. Consumers searching the Web on Google TV will see the same ads that they see on their PC. Consumers can switch from search on the Internet to television programming without the need to navigate through clunky on-screen directories.

A search box will deliver the same feel on the television that they have experienced on the Internet. It makes the TV "a natural extension of the Web itself," Rishi Chandra told 5,000 developers at for Google I/O conference in San Francisco. "Video should be consumed on the biggest, best and brightest screen in the house, and that is a TV."

For brands, they will be able to target consumers watching TV through paid ads and display ads using Google Content Network, Google AdWords and Google AdSense.

For me the big news is that this gives the Android platform and the Android developers network a massive advantage over Apple as the Android platform has now moved up from just supporting mobile to now being
integrated with TV. Just days after it was announced that Google Android handsets are outselling the iPhone, new figures reveal it has also overtaken Windows Mobile - Telegraph.

Users will be able to use their Android phones to control their TV's with voice search, push YouTube videos across to Google TV via wif-fi and of course view and interact with their favourite apps. It's a big plus for Android and it will be interesting to see Apple's response.

Google TV will become available in late 2010 on television sets, Blu-ray players and set-top boxes.

Search captures people at point of purchase, Video captures peoples' INTEREST

I believe that Search and Video have really important roles to play in a company's marketing efforts. Search has proven to be an outstanding, targeted advertising medium which captures a user's intent at the pint of interest. Video however captures as user's interest which is a more long-term value proposition to brands.

On line video viewing is growing exponentially. This year, eMarketer estimates that 66.7% of US Internet users—147.5 million people—are watching video online each month. By 2014, that figure is forecast to rise to 77% of Internet users, or 193.1 million people. In the same period, online video advertising spending will surge from $1.4 billion to $5.2 billion.

Here are 3 videos we have produced for Triton Showers to help build their brand in the UK

Video is the future for brand marketing and that's why klickdigital is investing in an iPTV content-delivery platform as video will continue grow exponentially over the next five years as consumers become comfortable with watching all forms of video content—long and short, professional and amateur—on their Internet-connected phones, laptops, desktops, tablets and TVs.

Good Clean Fun

So the location shoot is over and the editing begins - with the campaign starting on 23 April. klickdigital's first ever viral campaign is about to become live. The crew had a great time shooting the scenes - have a peak at what went on.

The hard work is beginning with the editing of the film and the seeding of the campaign. Will be testing a number of concepts and will share what works and what does not.

What's worked for you when seeding a campaign?

Learning how to be successful in the future

Had a really interesting conversation yesterday with an ex-colleague about how to be successful in the future - what is it going to take? He had recently read Daniel Pink's book 'A Whole New Mind' and shared with me how it is starting to change the way his company thinks.

Daniel Pink's vision of the 3 most powerful key influencers in the next 10 years are:
  1. Consumer abundance - too much choice
  2. Asia - work (manufacturing and service based industry) will continue to migrate to Asia and this will increase dramatically in the next 3 years
  3. Automation - machines and computers do it so much better than humans
So humans need to decrease their logical ways of being and develop a more of the “conceptual” side of themselves. And this is the cultural challenge that my friend is leading within his company - driving the team's six critical competencies required for the conceptual age.

  1. Design - functionality is now a given and the design will be key to win consumers emotionally
  2. Story - creating stories that engage with consumers - not just a series of product benefits
  3. Symphony - adding invention and big picture thinking (not just detail focus)
  4. Empathy - engaging emotion
  5. Play - incorporating fun and lightheartedness into the work place as the products/services
  6. Meaning - understanding your contribution to the success of the team; the value that the company's products and services deliver for its customers
Will be interesting to meet-up with him again in 6 months time and see how he has progressed. In the meantime I have my spring read sorted.

Charlie on course

Nothing about digital marketing today - rather a story about an exceptional individual who is rowing the Southern Atlantic solo. Charlie Pitcher is a mad man that I met at an Abba party 18 months ago and is now halfway across the Atlantic (26 days, 20 hours, 24 mins into his race). His blog makes an exceptional read into the highs and lows and occasional self doubts that he is experiencing. Currently he is the leading solo boat (track him online - 4JJ Insure&Go)and fingers crossed is on target to beat the record. Weather currently is awful so not much rowing but hopefully it will pass soon. And of course would be great if you would help sponsor him too

2010 is the year to go social ... BIG time!

Persistence and focus! It's been a long haul but having presented a killer social media and viral campaign strategy to a key client back in November, it has just been signed-off and we now need to deliver. So the long days and nights are starting to loom ahead of us but it's the kind of pressure we love. Will start announcing the initiatives as they launch.

Came across this killer app from Animoto the other day which will be perfect for including in a social media strategy. Don't forget to follow me on twitter as I tend to post thoughts as they drop into my head.

Here's to a burnt-out but happy and challenged team during the next 3 months!!!

Some of the cool things I've been involved in 2009 with Omnicom

2009 had some big lows for me personally however we came through it and delivered some great work including the Triton Showers work which has delivered beyond the clients' expectations.

The first working week of 2010 has been a logistical challenge with the snow and trains etc. however the New Year is starting to look good with the viral campaign for a major brand about to start later this month and a heap of other social media projects that the team is starting on.

The work with Omnicom in 2009 is continuing and to give you an idea of the solutions that the Omnicom team delivered in 2009 here's a short video including the CarPhone Warehouse brand channel which KlickDigital built with CHI & Partners providing the creative - it is the most advanced YouTube brand channel on the site today
